I've got a feeling September is going to be pretty special this year - to be honest, it's a month I love anyway, in the knowledge that bonfires, conkers and fireworks are just around the corner. It’s the start of long drawn-out evenings, slightly more bearable heat, a bumper issue of Vogue (with this year's issue featuring a fantastic letter from glamazon Victoria Beckham to her chubby, awkward 18-year-old self – a must read). But more importantly, this month is particularly special one for Scents and the City, as we've been chosen as The Perfume Society’s Blogger of the Month.
Their mission is to bring underground perfume writing to the fragrance-loving masses, so they have chosen our interview with perfumer Nancy Meiland to feature on the site which you can read here. I started this website less than a year ago, so to be recognised by The Perfume Society is a huge deal.
It was founded by magazine editor and co-author of the Beauty Bible series Jo Fairley, together with industry consultant Lorna McKay, who was previously the buyer for Harrods’ beauty department and famously transformed the beauty department of QVC. Together they have penned The Perfume Bible and it’s safe to say these ladies know their (sweetly-scented) onions when it comes to waxing lyrical on scent.
It's a way to get scent fanatics to connect, learn and sniff to their hearts’ content (their 'How To Improve Your Sense of Smell' workshops are hugely popular). They also offer special ‘Discovery Boxes’ contain miniature versions of some gorgeous scents, classic and contemporary (which each fit perfectly into handbag), with a 'smelling notes' guide included. They also publish The Scented Letter, an e-magazine dedicated solely to scent (read my piece for them on the scent of popcorn here).
