Coco De Mer, Covent Garden

Luxurious and slightly racy, this place is the retail equivalent of a Jilly Cooper novel ...

Decent independent lingerie boutiques in London are few and far between. But if you like lingerie (and creative bedroom fun), you might want to head over to Coco de Mer which offers beautiful pieces together with some other more adventurous wares ...

The boutique was founded by Sam Roddick, daughter of the late Anita Roddick who famously founded The Body Shop. Although it was sold to adult retailers Lovehoney in 2011, it still retains Roddick's ethos of using natural and eco-friendly materials. With polished interiors and emphasis on luxury, it's an adult store for someone who might also want to go shopping in Harvey Nichols afterwards. Proof that selling adult toys and attire needn't be tacky or an awkward shopping experience.

Lingerie lovers can happily browse the selection of delicate lace and satin designs including creations from the likes of Mimi Holliday, Damaris, Bordelle and Stella McCartney - together with Coco de Mer's own more provocative line.

It's a great place to pick up a more risqué gift, (perhaps for a bride-to-be) such as a coffee table book on erotica, or a synthetic-free massage oil. Coco de Mer also run special salons (intellectual discussion groups) and masterclasses throughout the year, ideal if you're hoping to get a bit more creative with your partner (or partners come to that...).

I was pleased to notice they also sell Escentric Molecules perfumes - considered some of the sexiest scents on the planet, they are designed to work with your body's natural pheromones, and aim to add a little something 'extra' to your natural scent.

Coco de Mer is located at 23 Monmouth St, London WC2H 9D
