Duck and Dry, Chelsea

If you're after immaculate blow dried hair, it doesn't get more high maintenance than this place ...

Lets face it, getting your hair blow dried is - for most of us - a treat, not a necessity. Like getting a cab home instead of being jostled on the tube, or ordering a take-away instead of eating that slightly congealed leftover shepherd's pie in the fridge. A blow dry looks fabulous, yes, but it's likely to last day - possibly two at most (but in the current heatwave, probably not).

The point I'm making is, as is the case with most beauty treatments, you're playing, in part, for the experience. To bask in cheery, pretty surroundings for half an hour or so, to get primped and fussed over and walk out feeling like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.  ("I have to go shopping now...") Nothing wrong with that. But it makes a huge difference going into a normal hair salon and heading over to Chelsea, which boasts some of the best blow dry bars in the land. And if it's good enough for a fussy Sloane Ranger, it's good enough for the rest of us mere mortals.

Case in point: Duck & Dry. With its pretty peppermint décor and plants dotted around - not to mention a prosecco bar - it's the ideal place to seek solace if the world's getting you down.

In terms of styles on offer, you can expect your typical glossy blow dry, together with be achy waves; poker straight locks circa Jennifer Aniston in the early 00s (sigh!); or lots of backcombed volume in the manner of a 60s Priscilla Presley. There are plenty of up dos too - from braided crowns to dominatrix ponytails complete with added quiff. There's also a nail bar so you can be extra high-maintenance and get a shape and polish with French tips to go with your Cindy Crawford-style 'do.

There are plenty of hair treats you can take home with you too - including their own new range. Blow Dry in a Bottle is for those after red carpet hair but don't have the budget to visit the salon every week. Packed with a nourishing cocktail of hair loving essential oils, you simply spray in wet hair and blow dry through to add volume. While Instant TLC is a leave-in conditioner to repair damaged and lack-lustre locks with shea butter, honey and virgin coconut oil.
