The Godfather of niche perfumery lands in London - and you can meet him ...
It's no exaggeration to say Frédéric Malle has been indirectly responsible for some of the most exquisite fragrances on the planet (the perfumers he commissions have complete creative freedom to use the most rare and luxurious ingredients they can find). He was also the visionary who began to champion individual perfumers when few other fragrance companies were doing it. So we're incredibly excited to announce that the very man himself, is in town - this Thursday November 17th, he'll be tipping up at Selfridges from 5:30 - 6 where he'll be available to chat to perfume lovers and Malle-afficionados. (If you haven't been to his gorgeous boutique on the Burlington Arcade, we suggest you head on down there asap!) The event is free, all you need to do is email firstname.lastname@example.org to get a complimentary ticket. If you need to do some homework beforehand, sniff out Portrait of a Lady (by Dominique Ropion, considered a modern classic) Lipstick Rose (by Ralf Schwieger, echoing that waxy lipstick smell you get from the inside of a make-up bag) and (my personal favourite) Eau de Magnolia (a crisp, citrus concoction underscored with an oh-so-sexy floral heart).
We once asked him what makes a 'good' perfume. He replied in his casual Parisian burr, "It has to make me want to sleep with that person wearing it..." Say no more.
Frédéric Malle will be appearing at Selfridges, Oxford Street on November 17th 5:30-6. Nearest tube is Bond Street. The event is free to attend but ticketed, email RSVP@editionsdeparfums.co.uk
